Liverpool 3-1 Sheffield United: Late surge puts Reds top of the table

Liverpool climbed back to the summit of the Premier League, reclaiming their position after Arsenal’s brief stint at the top. In a nail-biting encounter against Sheffield United, Jurgen Klopp’s men secured a crucial 3-1 victory. This win not only reinstated Liverpool’s two-point lead over both Arsenal and Manchester City but also solidified their position as frontrunners with eight games remaining in the season.

The Reds started strongly, with balls out wide being their main attacking threat. Mo Salah came close to opening the scoring with an audacious chip, but it wasn’t to be. Liverpool’s dominance was rewarded when Sheffield United goalkeeper Ivo Grbic made a costly error, kicking the ball straight into Darwin Nunez, who scored to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Despite controlling the game with 83% possession, Liverpool struggled to convert their chances against a side that had conceded 77 goals in their previous 29 league games. The second half saw Sheffield United come out fighting, and they were rewarded with an equalizer through Gustavo Hamer’s header.

With the game in the balance, Klopp turned to his bench, bringing on Andy Robertson and Harvey Elliott. However, it was Alexis Mac Allister who made the difference, scoring a stunning goal to put Liverpool back in front. Cody Gakpo then sealed the win with a header from Robertson’s cross.
