Glen Johnson names Liverpool star as his PFA POTY; Van Dijk, Mac Allister, and Salah snubbed

Former Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson has revealed his pick for the PFA Footballer of the Year award, opting for Reds attacker Darwin Nunez over the likes of Mohamed Salah, Alexis Mac Allister, and Virgil van Dijk.

Salah, a two-time PFA award winner, and Van Dijk, a previous recipient, have both enjoyed standout seasons. The Egyptian boasts 23 goals and 13 assists in 35 appearances across all competitions, while Van Dijk’s defensive prowess has been evident with four goals, two assists, and 10 clean sheets in 39 outings.

Meanwhile, summer signing Mac Allister has made his mark with six goals and seven assists in 37 games. However, Nunez has quietly impressed, contributing 18 goals and 13 assists in 45 appearances across competitions.

Johnson, speaking to The Anfield Buzz, opted for the surprise choice of Nunez, overlooking Salah, Van Dijk, and Alisson.

The PFA Footballer of the Year award, decided by members of the Professional Footballers Association, has been claimed by Liverpool players nine times since its inception in 1973-74, second only to Manchester United (11).
