Some Liverpool players took to Twitter to react to that late Divock Origi winner vs Wolves on Saturday. The Belgian turned a frustrating day into a magical one.
Liverpool played badly vs Wolves. They struggled to get things going in the final third and while they made their way into decent positions, no one could apply the right finishing touch. Diogo Jota, in particular, saw his finishing desert him completely, wasting two golden opportunities. But it was primarily that final ball that left Liverpool wanting and kept Wolves in the game.
But things couldn’t go Wolves’ way forever. Jurgen Klopp threw Divock Origi on after 68 minutes with five words of advice – words the Belgian heeded. Origi was excellent on his arrival, adding the right dimension to Liverpool’s attack, immediately causing trouble for Wolves. All he really needed was one opportunity and it’s one that he got in stoppage time.
Mohamed Salah, who hadn’t seen anything go his way up to that point, burst down the right flank and managed to cut it back for Origi. The Belgian had his back to goal but spun and finished expertly, winning Liverpool the game vs Wolves with little time remaining.
On what was a difficult day – to say the least – Liverpool still got their three points against Wolves. And with Chelsea losing to West Ham United, these were three points the Reds really didn’t want to miss out on. It’s no surprise that Origi’s teammates took to Twitter to celebrate the Belgian, then. He delivered what Liverpool needed against Wolves when others couldn’t – and not for the first time.
