VAR controversy as Newcastle fans think Alexander Isak was onside for disallowed goal against Liverpool

Newcastle United supporters believe club-record signing Alexander Isak was wrongly denied a second goal against Liverpool in their dramatic 2-1 defeat at Anfield.
Isak put the Magpies ahead on Merseyside with a well-taken finish on his debut for the club, after joining in a £63m move from Real Sociedad last week.
The Sweden international thought he had a second when he superbly beat two Liverpool defenders before firing past Alisson early in the second half.
But the goal was ruled out by VAR for an offside in the build-up, with replays appearing to show Isak marginally ahead of final defender Joe Gomez.
Just five minutes later, Liverpool found an equaliser through Roberto Firmino before second-half substitute Fabio Carvalho scored a dramatic winner for the home side in the 98th minute of the match.
Newcastle fans on social media believe VAR was wrong to disallow Isak’s second goal, believing the 22-year-old attacker should have been given the advantage on such a marginal call.

“Isak didn’t look offside to me,” wrote one fan on Twitter.
Another added: “Nowhere near offside…”
While a third wrote: “Isak was onside VAR did a good job though zooming out to the moon to hide it.”
Can’t lie, Marcus Rashford’s goal against Liverpool looked more offside than this Isak one that was ruled out for Newcastle at Anfield tonight.
I thought “thicker lines” for VAR were going to be implemented this season too? 🤔#LIVNEW pic.twitter.com/Dyir2mJgPl
