Umar Bashiru Named Ethiopian Premier League Player of the Year

Midfielder Umar Bashiru has been crowned the 2023/24 Ethiopian Premier League Player of the Year. Despite missing the award ceremony on Thursday, as he was in Tanzania with Ethiopia Nigd Bank for their CAF Champions League tie against Young Africans, Bashiru’s stellar season earned him the top honor.

The former Asante Kotoko star beat stiff competition from his teammate Fetuhdin Abdul Karim, Chernet Gugsa of Bahir Dar FC, Kenean Makenen from Defence Force FC, and other standout performers.

Bashiru had an impressive season, scoring seven goals and providing nine assists in 30 appearances. Currently in his second season with Ethiopia Nigd Bank, he continues to build on his previous success from stints at WAFA, Karela FC, and Asante Kotoko.
