Confirmed: Liverpool to go ‘6 points’ within City’s reach after win over Palace
Following a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon, Liverpool could go 6 points within the reach of Manchester City, as the title race takes a new shape.
The defending champions looked set to claim the trophy once again this year after an impressive 12 game winning run, but a draw against Southampton and Liverpool’s win over Palace has changed the identity of the table.
Liverpool who advanced to the finals of this season’s EFL Cup at the expense of Arsenal on Thursday, defeated Crystal Palace this afternoon by 3-1.
Virgil van Dijk, Oxlade Chamberlain and Fabinho (from the penalty spot) scored the three goals as the Reds picked up all three points.
The win took Liverpool’s points tally to 48 and nine behind Manchester City who are on 57.
But with Liverpool having a game in hand, they have the chance to close the gap to just 6 points.
This will certainly give the league table another shape especially as the two sides are yet to meet in the second of the season.
