Legend: Sell Trent Alexander-Arnold, replace with ‘Miles Better’ star

Liverpool Legeng Steve Nicol has advised his old club to consider selling Trent Alexander-Arnold, as emerging talent Conor Bradley stands ready to step into his shoes. Alexander-Arnold, pivotal in Liverpool’s 2019-20 Premier League victory, faces contract uncertainty, with Real Madrid reportedly eyeing him. The Reds aim to address his future, but decisions may await Klopp’s successor, who will assess the squad upon arrival.

Alongside Alexander-Arnold, stars like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk also face contract dilemmas, potentially influenced by Liverpool’s next managerial choice. Despite Alexander-Arnold’s sporadic appearances and positional experimentation, Bradley’s solid performances as a stand-in full-back have caught Nicol’s attention, positioning him as a viable immediate and future option.

As the 25-year-old’s contract nears its end, Liverpool’s managerial transition adds complexity to contract negotiations. With Klopp’s successor looming, the club faces pivotal decisions not only regarding Alexander-Arnold but also other key players like Salah and van Dijk. Amidst this uncertainty, Bradley emerges as a promising solution, demonstrating versatility and capability in filling Alexander-Arnold’s shoes.

With Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation under scrutiny and Real Madrid’s interest lurking, Liverpool must navigate critical decisions. Nicol’s endorsement of Bradley as a capable alternative underscores the club’s potential transition strategy amidst uncertainties surrounding key players’ futures. As Liverpool navigates this pivotal juncture, Bradley’s emergence provides a glimmer of stability amidst contractual uncertainties.

“I don’t care who you support. Trent Alexander-Arnold isn’t a good defender,” Nicol, who spent more than a decade at Anfield, told ESPN.

“If Madrid were to offer, I don’t know, £60, £70, £80m when you have a young kid in Conor Bradley, who is a miles better defender, great going forward, but in the same class as Trent. So it depends on the next manager, whether it’s a possibility.”

Four-time league title winner, Nicol had previously criticized Alexander-Arnold during Liverpool’s 3-1 loss to Arsenal. “Alexander-Arnold, as great as he is on the ball going forward, he’s a liability defensively,” he remarked. “He can’t defend one on one and he doesn’t get in good positions to stop Gabriel Martinelli today getting the ball.
