Ryan Babel warns Gini Wijnaldum about leaving Liverpool

Former Liverpool forward Ryan Babel has advised countrymate Gini Wijnaldum about leaving the League Champions, Liverpool.

Gini Wijnaldum was courted by Barcelona in the summer and has refused to extend his contract with the Merseyside club, with his current contract set to run out this summer.

Multiple reports in England have claimed that the Dutchman’s preference is to stay with the Premier League champions but he feels his current offer doesn’t much his influence in the team.

Ryan Babel, 34 who spent four years at Merseyside club has admitted that he regrets forcing his way out from the club in 2011 and has urged fellow team mate Wijnaldum not to make the same mistake.

Babel said:

I spent almost four years at Liverpool under Rafa Benitez and Kenny Dalglish.

When I left to go and play in Germany, where TSG Hoffenheim had become a big force, it was to become the biggest regret of my career.

The only reason I left was because I wanted to have more playing minutes to keep my place in the Holland team.

I was brought up with really attacking football at Ajax. In the academy, you learn to play that way. When I moved to Liverpool, it was exactly the same. It is in the DNA of the club to play attacking football.

The 34 year old striker who ply his trade at Ajax went on to recall his greatest highlights during his four year association with the Anfield side.

I loved every ­minute I was at Liverpool. ­Fortunately, Dirk Kuyt was at Liverpool and he was a massive support to me,” the forward said.

Gini Wijnaldum was signed from Newcastle in 2016 for £25million and has helped Liverpool lift the Champions League and the Premier League in successive seasons.
