Pixel 9’s ‘Add Me’ Feature Allows You to Join Group Photos Virtually

Google is pushing the boundaries of photo editing with its upcoming Pixel 9, which has a groundbreaking feature called “Add Me.” This innovation, recently highlighted in a leaked advertisement, allows users to insert themselves into group photos even if they weren’t physically present at the time the picture was taken.

The new feature was showcased in an ad shared with Android Headlines by OnLeaks. Although the video was quickly removed from YouTube, the details provide a tantalizing glimpse into how “Add Me” works. In the demo, a photographer captures a picture of friends in front of a van. After switching places with one of the friends, the Pixel 9 magically inserts the original photographer into the scene, creating a cohesive group photo as if they had been there all along.

The functionality appears to work by combining two images with identical backgrounds, allowing for a seamless addition of absent individuals into the final photo. This feature aligns with Google’s trend of blurring the lines between reality and digital enhancement, following previous innovations like the AI-powered Magic Eraser and the Best Take feature.

In addition to “Add Me,” the Pixel 9 will debut other advanced features. Google’s new Gemini assistant and “Pixel Screenshots” utilize AI to streamline interactions and search through saved screenshots, respectively. Another leaked ad suggests an upgraded Magic Editor, which might offer background replacement based on user prompts.
