Liverpool have received a fitness boost as Thiago Alcantara has seemingly returned to training after his Covid-related absence.

The Reds are busy preparing for their trip to Leicester City on Tuesday night – and Jurgen Klopp could now have the Spanish midfielder at his disposal.

Thiago missed Liverpool’s 2-2 draw at Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month after testing positive for coronavirus and was also unavailable for the Carabao Cup quarter-final win over Leicester at Anfield.

However, his team-mates have taken to social media to appear to celebrate Thiago’s return.

Salah posted the photo of the trio at the AXA Training Centre in Kirkby, with Tsimikas providing the caption: “Papi is back”.

Thiago had previously posted about his isolation, sharing a photo of him speaking with his family, via a video call.

But on Boxing Day he then confirmed he was ‘Covid free’ with another social media post, after being reunited with his wife and children.

Thiago’s return will be a welcome relief to Reds boss Klopp, who has had to carefully manage his squad through their busy festive schedule.

The Reds have won the last six league games in which Thiago had started, forming a formidable midfield trio alongside Fabinho and Jordan Henderson.

Liverpool will head to Leicester on Tuesday aiming to reduce the gap between themselves and league leaders Manchester City to three points.
