Manchester United’s London Woes: Will they continue this weekend?
Manchester United will aim to improve their recent poor record in London as they get ready to face Brentford in West London this Saturday.
The Red Devils are high on confidence after securing a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Liverpool in the FA Cup, which earned them a spot in the semi-finals. In their last league match, they defeated Everton 2-0 on March 9th.
Currently, they are placed sixth in the Premier League table, trailing Tottenham Hotspur by six points and Aston Villa by nine points, with Villa having played one more game than them.
However, Manchester United‘s upcoming matches in London could prove challenging, as they face back-to-back away games against Brentford and Chelsea. The Red Devils have won only one of their last eight Premier League away matches against London teams, suffering five defeats in the process.
This poor record could hurt their chances of securing a top-four finish and qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
The Red Devil’s recent trips to London have not been fruitful, with four defeats in their last five visits to the capital in the Premier League, including three losses from four trips in the current campaign.
Ten Hag’s side suffered defeats at West Ham United, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur, and they will not have fond memories of their last trip to Brentford, where they were thrashed 4-0 last season. However, Manchester United have a good record against Brentford, winning eight of their last 10 matches against them, including a 2-1 success at Old Trafford earlier this season.
The 54 year old manager is confident his team is ready for their upcoming match against Brentford, stating that they have had a great break and are now focused on returning to their usual style.
The Dutchman confirmed that Lisandro Martinez is expected to be in the squad for the trip to West London, having recovered from a knee injury. Harry Maguire, Casemiro, Jonny Evans, and Altay Bayindir could also return to the squad, but Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, and Anthony Martial remain sidelined. Amad Diallo will miss out through suspension after being sent off in the win against Liverpool last time out.
Ten Hag acknowledged the challenge of facing a Brentford side who have been impressive this season but insisted that his team will be prepared. “It’s always a tough game against Brentford, they have a clear philosophy and are a good team,” he said. “But we will be ready and we will go there to win.”
