EPL Report: Chelsea continue to sink, Leicester up to third

Chelsea’s poor run of form continued as they lost their fourth game in 6 matches to a Manchester City team plagued by Covid-19.

After going 17 games unbeaten, Frank Lampard has found himself under pressure and has even admitted that he needs to get results for the club, but that did not happen as his side were defeated by Guardiola’s men at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea began the game brightly and could have been awarded a penalty after Rodri appeared to have fouled Timo Werner in the penalty box.

Frank Lampard’s men could have taken the lead earlier in the game but failed to make the most out of an indirect free kick which was awarded them after goalkeeper Steffan, making his Premier League debut, made an error by handling a pass from his teammate.

City then came alive and went ahead after Gundogan showed some individual brilliance to turn and beat Thiago Silva before firing home beyond Mendy.

The second was added in the 18th minute after Phil Fiden tapped in from a Kevin de Bruyne low cross. De Bruyne then turned scorer 13 minutes later as he finished off a fantastic City counter attack which should have been finished earlier by Raheem Sterling.

The result leaves Chelsea in 8th place, while Manchester City are now in 5th position with two games in hand including their cancelled game against Everton.

Earlier before the Chelsea and Manchester City game, Leicester recorded their first win after three games as goals from James Maddison in the 55th minute and Youri Tielemans in the 72nd minute secured all three points for Rodgers’ side.

Leicester City are now third on the table and just a point behind Manchester United and Liverpool who play Southampton later tomorrow.
