Liverpool player ratings as Virgil van Dijk excellent and Luis Diaz exciting at Inter Milan

Liverpool player ratings for the 2-0 win away to Inter Milan in the Champions League knockout stages

Alisson Becker 7

Did everything with trademark assurance, but happy to see Calhanoglu shot hit the bar first half.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 6

Too hurried with some clearances and on occasion exposed up against Perisic first half. Found it even tougher after break but kept at it and involved in second.

Ibrahima Konate 7

Solid enough in helping cover Alexander-Arnold and one excellent interception but distribution at times wayward. Much-needed blocks as Inter threatened second half.

Virgil van Dijk 8

Had the better of Dzeko first half and intimidated Martinez to not even trying a one-on-one. Appeared to be playing the Inter attack by himself at times after break. Really good.

Andy Robertson 6

Curled in one fine cross for a Mane chance but forward forays too often petered out before break. More defensive after that, but excellent corner for the opener.

Fabinho 7

Began well in both covering the defence and driving Liverpool forward and lead by example. Surprise to see him subbed.

Thiago Alcantara 6

Started promisingly and looped one volley over but, like many of his team-mates, saw his influence wane longer the game progressed. Came again in final quarter. Subbed.

Harvey Elliott 5

Couple of nice moments but too often his play was rushed and lost ball in some dangerous positions. Will gain from experience. Subbed.

Mohamed Salah 6

Found space inside the area at times first half but unable to make the right choice. Hard slog after that but remained persistent and rewarded with second goal.

Diogo Jota 6

Looked to threaten with trademark bustling runs but too often found the ball running away from him. Subbed.

Sadio Mane 6

Strong opening half-hour and headed over before wide with overhead kick. Lost way a bit after break and subbed.

Roberto Firmino (for Jota 46) 6

Made hardly any positive impact until popping up with the header for the crucial opener.

Jordan Henderson (for Fabinho 59) 7

Snapped into tackles straight away and sought to inject a bit of life into Liverpool.

Naby Keita (for Elliott 59) 7

Provided much-needed composure and passing in midfield.

Luis Diaz (for Mane 59) 7

Lively whenever the ball was near him and one shot blocked after strong run.
