How Liverpool and Chelsea could line up in the Kop-Blues…

Liverpool and Chelsea probable lineups.

Liverpool and Chelsea who lie outside the top four, currently, will lock horns at Anfield on Thursday night with the hope of strengthening their claim for a place in next season’s Champions League.

Thomas Tuchel’s side drew 0-0 with Manchester United on Sunday and will seek to make amends when they play at Anfield, while Liverpool won their first game after several consecutive defeats in the Premier League.

The first game of the season between Liverpool and Chelsea ended in a 0-2 win for Jurgen Klopp’s side at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea will be hoping to exact their revenge especially with the arrival of Tuchel.

Chelsea’s new boss has began brightly at the Bridge having conceded just two goals in his opening 9 games in charge and his familiarity of his German compatriot, could be a great weapon for the West Londoners.

Ahead of the Liverpool and Chelsea game, we take a look at how the teams could line up.

How Liverpool and Chelsea could line up

Alisson Becker who missed Liverpool’s game against Sheffield on compassionate grounds following the death of his father is likely to return in post.

The Brazilian has come under scrutiny in recent weeks for a couple of mistakes and would want to prove a point on Thursday.

His quest to keep a clean sheet will be bolstered by the return of Fabinho who could partner Philips in central defense alongside Trent Alexander Arnold and Andy Robertson in the full back positions.

With Jordan Henderson still sidelined, Klopp is likely to go with the midfield three of Thiago, Wijnaldum and Curtis Jones.

In attack, Diogo Jota’s return might not pose any threat yet to Firmino’s place in the team as the latter is expected to start in the middle with Salah and Mane playing from the wings.

Liverpool possible starting lineup:
Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Phillips, Fabinho, Robertson; Thiago, Wijnaldum, Jones; Salah, Firmino, Mane

Thomas Tuchel is likely to maintain his three back formation against Liverpool on Thursday as it has served him with good results since his arrival.

Andreas Christensen will likely continue in the middle of the back three with Thiago Silva still out although he returned to training this week. The Dane will be partnered by Antonio Rudiger and Azpilicueta as the immediate shield for Mendy in post.

In midfield, Ngolo Kante and Mateo Kovacic who did an incredible job of stopping Bruno Fernandes on Sunday will continue in their role as double pivot or double six while Callum Hudson Odoi who has been preferred by Tuchel could start at right wing back with Alonso returning in the left wing back role.

Timo Werner was rested in the game against United but he is likely to start this time around, partnering Mason Mount in attack.

With Liverpool having a defensive crisis, Tuchel might opt for a more fluid attack which will see Christian Pulisic starting ahead of Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud.

Predicted XI: Mendy; Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger; Kante, Kovacic, Hudson Odoi, Alonso; Werner, Mount, Pulisic
