NBA Notebook: Kyrie Irving drops 40 on Celtics; Warriors losing streak continues

Kyrie Irving was in fine form for the Brooklyn Nets as they secured their first win in the second round of the 2020/2021 NBA season.

The win against the Boston Celtics gave the Brooklyn Nets their third consecutive victory, thanks to Irving’s stellar performance against his former side.

Kyrie Irving was the standout performer as he dropped 40 points, and recorded 8 rebounds and 3 assists to power the  Nets to a 121-109 victory over the Celtics.

The Nets went into the game without Kevin Durant who is still out injured, and Griffin who recently joined as a free agent.

Durant is yet to recover after sustaining an injury last month which kept him out of the 2021 All-Star game while Griffin is now settling in with his new side.

Their absence, however, was not much of a problem as Kyrie Irving stepped up alongside James Harden. While Irving led the scoring chart, Harden was also crucial recording 8 assists and 10 rebounds and 22 points.

The victory keeps the Brooklyn Nets closer to the 76ers who won last night to make it 25-12 and in first place. The Nets are in second place with 25-13.

Elsewhere, the Golden State Warriors’ woes continued on Thursday night as they recorded their fourth consecutive defeat and their first of the second round.

They were defeated 104-130 by the Los Angeles Clippers and are now out of the top eight in the Western Conference.
