In the first post All-Star break update on the 2020/2021 Kia MVP ladder, Nikola Jokic has dislodged Joel Embiid as the leading candidate to win the prestigious accolade this season.

Jokic was placed second in the last ranking but thanks to a string of impressive performances and the unfortunate injury to Embiid, he has now taken the first spot on the ladder.

The Nuggets star is undoubtedly having a season to remember as he leads the league this season in double-doubles with 36 in 40 contests.

He also dished 10 of Denver’s season-high 37 assists earlier this week, and also posted his 228th career double-double to move past Dikembe Mutombo for the franchise record.

Joel Embiid of the 76ers who used to occupy the first spot has now dropped to 5th position, following a run of missed games.

The player has already missed 10 of Philadelphia’s first 41 games, and could sit out for an extended period due to a bone bruise in his left knee that was initially expected to keep him out two to three weeks.

With the likes of James Harden and Doncic pushing to climb up the ladder, he could drop further by the time he returns from the injury.

Jokic’s former spot is now filled by Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers who used to be in the fourth spot, while Giannis Antetokounmpo who won the MVP of the All-Star game has moved incredibly from 7th position into 3rd place, owing to the consecutive triple doubles he poured recently.
