Frank Lampard yesterday, during his press conference, confirmed that Spanish international and the World’s most expensive goalkeeper, Kepa will be in the post when Chelsea face Krasnodar in their last game of the 2020/2021 UEFA Champions League season.

It will be the player’s first appearance since Edouard Mendy made his debut for the club in the Carabao Cup in which Chelsea were eliminated by Tottenham Hotspurs on penalties.

Kepa has since then failed to regain his spot in the team particularly due to a string of poor and unimpressive performances last season and at the beginning of this season coinciding with Mendy’s great start to life at Chelsea

Fortunately for the Spaniard, he has been offered an opportunity tonight to prove his worth but what can this game offer him?

Lampard has confirmed that Kepa will start tonight

What can tonight’s game offer Kepa?

It remains very unlikely that even a world-class performance from Kepa tonight will see him regain his spot as the first-choice goalkeeper for Chelsea especially with Edouard having an impressive campaign for the Blues.  The Senegalese international is currently the leading player for most clean sheets in the Premier League and the Champions League and Lampard could stick with his favourite for the majority of this campaign.

But with the transfer window drawing closer, it will be a great opportunity for the Spaniard to attract some suitors in order to secure either a permanent move or a loan move.

It remains without a doubt that Kepa’s unimpressive performances did not only see him return to the bench but also reduced his number of suitors. The situation becomes even more complicated when Kepa’s price tag and salary are considered.

It has been reported that Chelsea will want to gain a significant fee from the purchasing amount and a good performance in tonight’s game and in subsequent games could see the player’s worth growing and opening up opportunities elsewhere.

Tonight’s game might be of little importance to Chelsea but it could be the one which sees Kepa starting a new journey in his career.
