Having terminated his contract with Juventus, former Wales striker Dean Saunders has told TalkSPORT that he can see either Nottingham Forest or Newcastle signing Aaron Ramsey.
The midfielder ripped his contract up with Juventus days ago and he’s now free to source himself a new club.
Ramsey is a vastly experienced player and he does have Forest on his CV following a short loan spell in 2009.
On that occasion, he only made five appearances but he was part of the team that beat Derby County 5-2 at the City Ground.
The 31-year-old made 69 appearances for the Old Lady, scoring six goals and claiming as many assists.
It’s his spell at Arsenal that would perhaps persuade Forest fans that he can prove a useful pickup on a free transfer.
During 371 appearances for the Gunners, he registered 65 assists and also helped himself to 65 goals in the process.
Ramsey has collected three FA Cup winners medals during his career and Saunders has been discussing his future.
He told the TalkSPORT Breakfast Show: “Forest are the ones.
“A lot of people forget but Steve Cooper, he’s Welsh. He will know about Aaron and his availability.
“He covers more ground than any other player. If Newcastle are interested too, I can see any player being interested in that.”
It’s perhaps easy for Saunders to stick the pieces together with this one but can Forest really afford to do this deal.
They’ve just spent good money on a season of Jesse Lingard and perhaps the club’s hierarchy can afford another big-name signing.
Ultimately, Ramsey hasn’t played lots of football in recent seasons though and that in itself represents a risk.
Forest need to make sure they’re well-stocked for next season and in terms of experience, he would be brilliant.
The Reds need players to come in and make an impact though and his fitness definitely provides a cause for concern.
Ramsey will be desperate to get hooked up quickly ahead of the World Cup and it remains to be seen whether that will be with Forest or not.
