The Ghana Premier League resumes with week 14, but both Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak are exempted from matchday duties as a result of the former’s involvement in a continental fixture.
The two glamorous clubs in Ghana were scheduled to battle it out in week 14 at the Accra Sports Stadium, but the Ghana Football Association earlier this week announced the postponement of the game, with Kotoko playing its first leg playoff of the CAF Confederation cup on Sunday.
The postponement of the ‘Ghana el clasico’ was not the only change announced by the FA. The clash between Medeama SC and Bechem United which was originally scheduled for Friday, February 12, has also been moved to Sunday, February 14, 2021.
The rest of the fixtures, however, will go on as planned including the games involving WAFA and Ashanti Gold and Dwarfs and Karela FC.
GPL Week 14 preview
WAFA vs Ashanti Gold
About a year ago, Ashanti Gold suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of WAFA at the dreadful Sogakope Park in the Ghana Premier League.
The academy boys defeated the miners 6-1 on match day 12 in the truncated season-a result that will still haunt the visitors ahead of Saturday’s game.
Add the uninspiring form that Ashanti Gold have been in, and it is easier to predict a repeat of another humiliating defeat for the miners at Sogakope.
After putting themselves in a good position few weeks ago, Ashanti Gold have gone winless in their last five games. They were thrashed by Legon Cities, lost 2-1 to Ebusua Dwarfs and lost 1-0 to Liberty Professionals. They also drew to Medeama and Kotoko in the process.
WAFA, on the other hand, will be buoyed going into the fixture, having recorded a huge win (5-0) over Liberty Professionals in their last home game.
However, the 5-0 thrashing of Liberty has been followed by defeats to both Dreams FC and Aduana Stars and they will be hoping to make amends by picking up all three points on Saturday.
An intriguing encounter awaits us!
Karela vs Dwarfs
Karela United who lost their first place to Kotoko in match week 13 will be hoping to reclaim tough by beating Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs.
The home side are in a good run of form as they lie in 7th position and have won twice and drawn twice in their last four games in the Ghana Premier League.
A win will take them into the fourth position, depending on other results, and they will do all possible to secure all three maximum points.
