GPL Week 13 report: Kotoko inflict Karela’s first home defeat in 5 years to go top
Goals from each half from Imoro Ibrahim and Kwame Poku at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park saw Kumasi Asante Kotoko becoming the first club in five years to defeat Karela FC on their home grounds.
Karela had not tasted defeat in their 64 games played on home soil (including division one games) which stretches back to February 2016, but have now lost that record after Kotoko defeated them to claim their third win of the 2020/2021 season.
Moro Ibrahim opened the scoring for the Porcupine Warriors in the 38th minute from his own rebound after his initial opportunity and effort which was provided by Kwame Opoku was blocked .
The creator then turned scorer in the 65th minute to register his 7th goal of the Ghana Premier league season and Kotoko’s second of the day.
By securing all three points, Kotoko also leapfrogged Karela United into first place, with the likes of Great Olympics suffering defeats in match week 13.
Karela, however, do not drop further than second position as their goals difference separate them and Bechem United who are now level on points with them.
Bechem United got into the top three after defeating Great Olympics who had secured successive victories thanks to goals from Clinton, Hafiz Konkoni, and Salifu Moro.
In other match week 13 fixtures, Aduana Stars secured a 1-0 victory over WAFA, while Inter Allies who are now bottom of the pile lost 0-2 at home to Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs.
