Legon Cities were in fine form on Friday night as they thrashed Obuasi side, AshantiGold, 5-2 at the Accra Sports stadium to secure their second win of the season in match week 10.

Bashir Hayford’s side went into week 10 having won just a game from the season, but they turned up brilliantly against the most lethal scorers in the League this season for just their second win of the season.

It was AshantiGold who set the thriller in motion after Yaw Annor netted in the 6th minute of the game to give the Miners a deserved lead. But that lead wouldn’t last long with the home side cancelling it out three minutes later through Nasiru Moro.

Yaw Annor then netted his second and his club’s second in the 31st minute before Legon Cities equalized right at the end of the first half (45th minute) through Jonah Attuquaye.

The second half saw Legon Cities coming out of the blocks and adding three more goals to down AshantiGold. Baba Mahma netted just four minutes into the restart before Cudjoe David netted a brace in the 52nd and 62nd minutes to seal the victory for Legon Cities.

While the result does not move Legon Cities out of the relegation zone, they are now in 16th position and just a point away from moving out of the relegation zone.

The defeat suffered by AshantiGold was not only beneficial to Legon Cities, with Accra Hearts of Oak leapfrogging the Miners into second place behind Karela United.
