Latest reports out of Switzerland and England say former FIFA president Sepp Blatter is facing criminal charges over the finance of a Zuric museum.
BBC reports that Joseph “Sepp” Blatter, the retired Swiss football administrator who was the eighth President of the FIFA from 1998 to 2015 but currently serving a six-year ban from participating in FIFA activities, has responded to say he is innocent.
FIFA reports that the 84 year old former Swiss’s administration took £118m to renovate “a building that the organisation doesn’t own”, while also “locking itself into a long-term rental agreement on unfavourable terms”.
Below is the FIFA Statement:
Following a detailed review of historic facts and circumstances concerning the construction and on-going operational costs of the Fifa museum, Fifa has become aware of many serious irregularities regarding this project, which raise strong suspicions of criminal misconduct on the part of various different officials and companies associated with the matter.
