Ahead of the game against Southampton tomorrow, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has shed some lights on several issues including team news and the potential arrival of Ralph Rangnick.
Read on to find every word he said.
Klopp on the return of Firmino/Keita/Elliott
“My phone didn’t ring this morning about any issues. The players available v Porto are the ones for this weekend.”
Klopp on transfer levy in fan-led review
“In general, I like it. I heard today about the review but I don’t know all details. I understand the desire to change it down the leagues.
“There are loads of talents in academies coming through, players get better earlier than the past.”
Klopp on Thiago
“We found solutions when he was out and we find them with him. We have an incredible choice of midfielders.
“Thiago has incredible skill set, we give him rhythm but we don’t overdo it with the games coming up. That’s why we took him off on Wednesday. We do that with Ox.”
Klopp on the quality currently in the Premier League
“The Premier League makes steps every year. It’s not about the top teams, the improvement of the league can be seen In positions below. Brighton, Villa, Arsenal, Wolves… It’s just the league is so strong, really tough and exciting.
“For sure the best league I’ve had here so far.”
Klopp on Tsimikas development
“I am really happy that Kostas showed up when he did, we’re seeing how good he is now. Robbo needed six months [to adapt], Kostas needed a year.”
Klopp on competition at left-back
“Tsimikas is pushing, but I don’t see it as pushing in this sense. People constantly forget how good Robbo is. Kostas is much better than he was. We have Owen Beck coming up too, a big prospect. But I don’t doubt Robbo at all.”
Klopp on Rangnick reputation
“He is highly regarded with the coaches. Where he has been he has done incredible jobs. He started as a young man at Stuttgart and then made his way up. I faced him when I was a young coach. He might have forgot that, but he called me a lot at Mainz.”
Klopp on Ralf Rangnick arrival
“It’s a bit tricky, we usually don’t talk until they are confirmed.
“It’s obviously a really experienced manager, built famously two clubs from nowhere to proper forces in Germany. The first concern is always a coach and that is what he is. United will be organised.”
Klopp on being back at Anfield again
“It’s a home game so we need to create the right atmosphere. We need to use it because they can counter, really active full backs, wingers who come inside. All strikers are a proper threat. Southampton are a good team and the Premier League is so strong even if you’re good you’re not at the top.”
Klopp on Southampton threat
“Ralph [Hasenhuttl] is obviously organising a proper team there. They maybe expect not to have majority of possession, they start very often 4-4-2 and can change to five at the back in the game.
“They are a very well drilled team. We have to be creative to break them down.”
Klopp on squad availability
“It’s much better. A week or 10 days ago we had two-and-a-half midfielders. Now that looks different. We could use the Porto game to give some minutes. First time in a while, I have to make decisions, which is actually cool.”
