CL Update: Porto vs Chelsea to be played in Spain; Lewandowski out for 4 weeks
The Champions League quarter-finals is set to begin next month after the draw was conducted two weeks ago in Switzerland.
FC Porto who eliminated Juventus in the round of 16 are set to take on Tuchel’s Chelsea while Real Madrid will play Liverpool in a repeat of the 2018 final. Winners of these ties will meet in the semi-finals.
On the other side of the draw, PSG will be hoping to go past defending champions Bayern Munich to book a place in the semis against either Manchester City or Borussia Dortmund.
Ahead of the games, we provide the latest update including the change of venue for the Chelsea vs Porto game and Lewandowski ‘s unavailability for the quarter-finals.
Porto vs Chelsea game to be played in Spain
UEFA has announced that both legs of the game between Porto and Chelsea will be played on neutral venue due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.
The Estadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, which is the home stadium of Sevilla, is set to host both legs in April.
The first leg, which is classed as Porto’s home game, takes place on Wednesday, April 7 at 8pm UK time. The reverse fixture, classed as Chelsea’s home leg, will be played on Tuesday, April 13 and will also kick-off at 8pm UK time.
Chelsea are already familiar with the venue having defeated Sevilla 4-0 in the last game of this season’s group stages.
Lewandowski ruled out
Bayern Munich will have to play last year’s finalist, PSG, without their star striker, Robert Lewandowski after the player was ruled out for four weeks.
Lewandowski suffered a knee injury during Poland’s 3-0 win against Andorra and is now set to spend some extra time on the sidelines.
Bayern Munich shared the news on their official Twitter page.
