Premier League: Chelsea share spoils with United

Both Chelsea and Manchester United kept their respective unbeaten runs after sharing the spoils in a tight clash which ended 0-0.

Chelsea, heading into the fixture, had not lost a game under Thomas Tuchel and were desperate to keep it that way while Manchester United were also keen on keeping their unbeaten away record of the season safe and both teams were able to achieve just that.

With the exception of a controversial handball situation involving Chelsea’s Callum Hudson Odoi, the match was devoid of any major highlight as Chelsea failed to move back into the top four while Manchester United also failed to close the gap on City ahead of their derby on Sunday.

Manchester City will be pleased that Sunday’s opponents and Leicester City who are their closest competitors for the title this season dropped points, with Brendan Rodgers’ side suffering a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Arsenal.

Pep Guardiola’s side have now won 20 consecutive games in the all competitions and are all 12 points clear at the top of the table.

AC Milan kept themselves in the title race after edging out AS Roma on Saturday. Pioli’s side needed the win to stay close to Inter Milan who had earlier secured a 3-0 win courtesy Lukaku, Darmian and Alexis Sanchez.

They responded perfectly as they defeated AS Roma away from home to keep the gap between themselves and the league leaders to four points with 14 games left to be played.

Defending champions, Juventus on the other hand, shot themselves in the foot as they dropped points in their quest to defend their title.

The 1-1 draw at the weekend means they are now trailing Inter Milan by 10 points, having played a game less.

An own goal from Alfonso Pedraza and a second half strike from Joao Felix ensured that Atletico Madrid did not carry their Champions League woes into their domestic duties.

The La Liga leaders fell at the hands of Chelsea in midweek following a 0-1 defeat in the first leg of the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.

Simeone’s men put that behind them as they secured a win on Saturday to put some distance between themselves and the other contenders for the La Liga crown.

The win took their points tally to 58, five more than Barcelona who has played a game more than them and six more than Real Madrid who plays tonight.

Match week 23 of the Bundesliga season presented wins to the top sides, as Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Wolfsburg secured victories over the weekend.

Among the top 5 five clubs, only Frankfurt lost their game in week 23, but they were not heavily affected as they continue to lie in fourth place and three points off Borussia Dortmund who completes the top 5.

RB Leipzig’s win keeps them close to Bayern Munich, with just two points separating both clubs after 23 matches played.
