After being defeated 2-1 in their last game of the 2020/2021 UEFA Champions League season, Manchester United, yesterday, failed to qualify to the round of 16 of this season’s campaign.
United’s inability to qualify means that Paris Saint Germain and RB Leipzig will qualify through from Group H to join the likes of Chelsea and Barcelona who have already qualified. The result comes at an unfortunate time as Manchester United prepare to take on their neighbours Manchester City in the Manchester derby this weekend.
In the other results, Chelsea also drew their last of the season after Jorginho scored from the spot-kick to cancel out Krasnodar’s early lead. It was a much-changed Chelsea side, with Frank Lampard opting to rest his key players for the dead rubber game.
This saw the likes of Kepa returning the post after a long while. Tino Anjorin also made his UEFA Champions League debut alongside teenage sensation Billy Gilmour.
Cristiano Ronaldo also scored twice as Juventus defeated Barcelona 3-0 at the Camp Nou. It was the first defeat of Barcelona at the Camp Nou after several years.
