Champions League: Madrid qualify to round of 16
Two goals from Karim Benzema yesterday helped Zinedine Zidane’s side, Real Madrid secure a place in the round of 16 Champions League as they beat Borussia M’gladbach by 2-0.
The results have topped group B with just 10 points and they do so alongside Borussia M’gladbach who qualify with 8 points.
Borussia M’gladbach qualified at the expense of Shakhtar Donetsk by goal difference as they both have the same points. Inter Milan placed last in the group.
Paris Saint Germain also defeated İstanbul Başakşehir 5-1 to top their group and qualify alongside RB Leipzig who defeated Manchester United on Tuesday.
The game was supposed to take place on Tuesday but was called off after the fourth referee was accused of racism.
Paris Saint Germain star Neymar was on fire as he secured a hattrick to help his side ease into the next stage of the competition.
The result also meant that İstanbul Başakşehir’s only win in the competition came against Manchester United in Turkey.
