Champions League last 16: Who can Liverpool face in Monday’s draw?

Liverpool will find out their opponents for the Champions League last 16 when the draw is made on Monday.

Jurgen Klopp‘s side qualified for the knockouts with two games to spare and without a blemish, becoming the first English team to have a 100 percent record in the group phase.

It was an emphatic first stage and now the last 16 awaits, and we now know the teams, all but one, the Reds can face in the first knockout stage, with French champions PSG among the six options.

A return to the San Siro is also on the cards with Inter Milan among the potential opponents, while a trip to Libson could be in the reckoning against either Sporting CP or Benfica.

When is the draw for the Champions League last 16?

The draw for the 2021-22 Champions League knockout phase will happen on Monday December 13, 2021. It is usually held at 11am GMT / 6am ET.

When will the Champions League last-16 games take place?

The last 16 round will take place over two legs, with the first legs played February 15–16 and February 22-23 and the second legs played on March 8-9 and March 15-16 2022.

It will be held at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

The eight group winners will be seeded and the eight runners-up will be unseeded.

Teams from the same group are not allowed to be drawn against each other, while clubs from the same national association (such as the Premier League or La Liga) also cannot be drawn against one another.

What are the draw rules?

The eight group winners will be paired with the eight runners-up to form the matches for the round of 16. Teams will play the club they are paired with home and away for the right to move on to the quarterfinals.

Teams that were in the same group in the group stage, such as PSG and Manchester City, cannot be drawn against each other in the round of 16. Teams from the same country also cannot be drawn against one another, so for example, Juventus cannot be drawn against Inter Milan.
