Cameroon pip Zimbabwe for first win in 2021 Total CHAN tournament

The biennial tournament kicked off in Cameroon on Saturday, nine months after Covid-19 forced its rescheduling.

Host nation, Cameroon got off to a perfect start to the competition, edging out Zimbabwe by a lone goal at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium.

Salomon Banga Bindjeme’s bicycle kick in the 72nd minute secured a vital win for the Indomitable Lions who had to dig deep for a win against a determined Zimbabwean side.

Elsewhere, Mali earned their first win of the competition over Burkina Faso in group A, thanks to Siaka Bagayoko’s 70th minute header goal.

Host nation Cameroon and Mali are now tied at the summit of the Group A table ahead of the second group matches.

The fixtures continue today, Sunday, with Libya facing Niger and Dr Congo taking on Congo Republic.
