Black Stars secure victory over Sudan to stay top of group

Goals from Black Stars skipper and Swansea City star Andre Ayew secured a needed win for the Black Stars as they remained top of their 2022 African Cup of Nations qualifying group after three games.

The Black Stars of Ghana went into their third qualifying game having secured two wins against South Africa and Sao Tome de Principe 2-0 and 1-0 respectively last year.

The team thus needed to maintain their perfect record and did it in style with two goals coming in each half from Andre Ayew.

The former under 20 world cup winner opened the scoring in the 18th minute after he gave the Sudanese goalkeeper no chance with his beautifully curled free-kick from just outside the 18-yard box.

Ayew then sealed the victory in the second half after he took on a handful of the Sudanese defence before hitting the target with his powerful left foot.

The result means that the CK Akonnor’s men (the Black Stars) are now unbeaten and are yet to concede a goal in three games, having scored 5 goals in the process.

Yesterday’s game marked the return of Abdul Baba Rahman after he went out of the national team due to injury and a lack of form. Kumasi Asante Kotoko right-back Christopher also made his debut for the Black Stars after starting and impressing at right-back for the team.
