Big blow: Alisson Becker suffers new injury

Liverpool’s star goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, may miss the upcoming Premier League game against Bournemouth due to a muscle issue, Liverpool manager Arne Slot revealed. The Brazilian has been a key figure for Liverpool, having played in all four league matches this season, as well as the Champions League victory over AC Milan on Tuesday.

Alisson’s fitness concern stems from muscle tightness that worsened after the Milan match, leaving his availability for the Bournemouth game in doubt. Slot stated, “It is a doubt if Alisson can train on Friday. If he can’t, then he probably won’t play. We have to wait and see.”

The 31-year-old also voiced concerns earlier in the week about the intense fixture schedule, saying, “Nobody asks the players” when discussing the strain multiple competitions place on their physical health. Despite playing 42 matches last season for both Liverpool and Brazil, Alisson dealt with injuries that saw understudy Caoimhin Kelleher step in for over two months.

Liverpool, who suffered a home defeat to Nottingham Forest after the recent international break, are in the midst of a busy run with seven games in 22 days. Slot acknowledged the Premier League’s demanding schedule but remains optimistic, “The quality of the league, and teams like Bournemouth and Forest, is much higher compared to other European leagues.”
